For every salary arbitration case, JFA typically begins work in earnest in September, continuing through late February. However, occasionally requests for assistance are made on short notice.
The Situation:
The second Friday in January, salary arbitration eligible players and clubs who are unable to agree on a contract for the coming season exchange salary submissions. Typically, this signifies that the case will proceed to hearing before a panel of arbitrators in as little as three weeks. After salaries were exchanged, a client called JFA seeking help for a case that was slated for hearing. Although JFA had not been involved in the case up to that point, JFA took on the matter, and three-and-a-half weeks later argued the case before the arbitration panel.
Our Success:
Working closely with the agent and the Players Association, JFA helped secure a victory for the player, resulting in a contract that was worth over $500,000 more than the club’s final offer.
